PHD OPPORTUNITIES
Are you interested in pursuing a PhD in one of the best universities in London? Are you interested in carrying out research in one of the best laboratories of fluid mechanics in the world? Then this is for you. The Laboratory of Applied Science in Queen Mary, University of London is looking for excellent students to join its ranks. The projects are mostly devoted to the study of the formation, impact and coalescence of droplets and look to overcome existing limitations of theoretical and experimental methods. In particular, our projects look at the breakup of fluids, the dynamics of liquid surfaces, and the impact and motion of liquids onto solid surfaces. All these topics are important in several practical contexts and have become the largest and major themes of research in fluid mechanics. Our work is predominantly experimental, but projects with theoretical and numerical work are also sought.
The Laboratory of Applied Science in Queen Mary, University of London is world renown for their studies on the break-off of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids. Topics in instrumentation or experimental techniques are also of our interest. We also have several projects on 3D printing of bio-fluids, complex liquids and granular media. Now, these studies include the printing of cells and bio-materials!!!
Current PhD projects include, but are not limited, to:
Surface tension effects in the microsecond time-scale
The contact angle dynamics of surface/liquid interfaces in motion and imperfections on the dynamics of spreading and receding liquids
3D printing, droplet deposition of bio-materials, bio-gels, colloids and cells
Bio-reactors (design, construction and testing)
Continuous inkjet and the breakup of liquid jets
Liquid breakup, including filament stretching rheometry
High Speed fluid visualisation and Holography.
Instrumentation projects are also of our interest.
We look forward hearing from you, please email us at r.castrejonpita[at]qmul.ac.uk
